Hunting the Squid

The royal squid exotic. White hull, gold tendrils, a cockpit like a single unblinking eye. The rarest spawn in most systems — and the reason I spent an entire Saturday staring at crash-site markers.

The method

Exotics only spawn in one slot per system's ship pool. So the loop is simple and brutal: find a wealthy system, buy emergency charts from the cartographer, and check every crashed ship until the pool rolls its one exotic. Then pray it's S-class.

Crash site four. A-class squid. Reload autosave. Crash site nine. Nothing. Crash site fourteen — S-class, 34 slots, first try on the reload.

"Ship hunting is 90% disappointment management and 10% screaming."

Was it worth it?

Six hours of charts and portal glyphs for one ship I'll probably fly for the rest of my save. Yes. Obviously yes. She's named Paper Lantern, and she handles like a dream with all the grace of a haunted chandelier.

If you want the glyph route I used, message me in-game — happy to share coordinates.
